I Built Four More BrickHeadz

0

I put together 4 more of the BrickHeadz – Batman, The Joker, Iron Man and Captain America. So cute, so collectible.

Each of them has a pink block in the middle of the head to represent their brain!!!

The construction is simple enough that the creative among you probably wouldn’t have problem inventing your own. If you do, send them over so we can all see them.

And if you’re looking for the best bang for the buck – The Joker had more pieces and was a more complex build than any of them. That hair is complicated.

5 down, 5 to go. £9.99 each. Lego Store exclusive. You know you want them.

Super Cool Lego BrickHeadz Robin

Hey, check out this super cool Robin from the new Lego BrickHeadz range!

Each of these is £9.99/$9.99/€9.99 and there’s currently ten of them to choose from – 4 from Batman, 4 from Marvel and 2 from Beauty and the Beast.

Took about 10 minutes to throw this together, very straightforward. It looks fantastic, and a great addition to your Lego room.

You do have one of those don’t you? It’s not just me? 😉

New Lego Ideas Winner announced – Women of NASA

New Lego Ideas Winner announced! Women Of NASA.

Totally surprised by the choice, but great to see. So different from the stuff they’ve picked before. And very relevant if you’ve seen the movie Hidden Figures (now in cinemas) which is about the unsung female heroes of the mission to send John Glenn into space and ultimately, to put man on the moon.

Greatest Lego Back to the Future DeLorean Ever

0

I LOVE Back to the Future. So when Lego released a Delorean set a few years ago, I had high hopes. But when it turned out to be a small, poorly detailed disaster – I was obviously disappointed.

It seems 지현 주 agrees, leading them to create this Lego DeLorean masterpiece. Be sure to check all of the photos and the INSANE detail this thing has. How do we get Lego to make this!!!

Tiny Lego Lady and the Tramp

Even with the smallest pieces, it’s possible to create something with so much life – Lady and the Tramp. Love the Mixel eyes. I should use those more. Great job by DarthNick.

Lego Batjet Chase

As the father of a young daughter in a house full of super hero fans, it’s disappointing to see so few toys from this interest aimed at girls. Despite the fact that there’s a Batgirl, and a Supergirl, and plenty of both Marvel and DC females – the only time you ever get any of these characters is as a sideline to the male versions.

So it’s especially nice, since we’re also a house of Lego fans, to see that this area is being addressed with a wide range of DC Super Hero Girls sets that were released on January 1st. You’ll find all the details below, which I cribbed straight from the information Lego sent over.

Rumoured UCS Millennium Falcon Re-Release (10179)

0
Lego Millennium Falcon 10179

There are some sets which are top of the wanted list for any serious Lego fan, and 2007’s 10179 Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Millennium Falcon is up there for most. The minifig scale, 5197 piece set was only available for a couple of years, and has become a fan favourite due to the sheer size and majesty of it. Star Wars fans and Lego fans alike both want to add this set to their collection.

But since it’s been discontinued for almost 7 years, and they only made 20,000 of them, your only choice for buying one of these is eBay, Bricklink or similar, where even an open box, already built used model is at least £1500. Brand new in box? Somewhere far north of three grand!

So rumours of this set being re-released, perhaps with minor changes similar to last years Death Star re-release, are enough to get me excited. I saw this one over at The Brick Fan, who are quoting sources over at Eurobricks, and all of that seems to suggest that people who know what they’re talking about say that this one is coming soon, partly in celebration of Star Wars 40th anniversary.

I do think Lego should be capitalising on this and doing this kind of re-release more often. How about putting out some of the early modulars again, or the Taj Mahal? Yes it would affect the resale market, but much better that we got the enjoyment out of reasonably priced sets.

Lego Boost Revealed

Lego Boost Verne

So much Lego news today, but the one I had to post about first was the announcement of Lego Boost. Arriving in August for $160, this is a robotics kit in the same vein as Lego Mindstorms, but rather than being based around Technic and aimed at older kids, this is based around classic Lego System bricks and aimed at kids as young as 7.

The starter kit is called the Creative Toolbox (17101) comes with 840 pieces and three Boost bricks. The first of these is the main hub, which contains a six-axis tilt sensor, two ports for input and output, and a light that can change colour. It’s powered by a bunch of triple-A batteries, and then the other two Boost bricks can plug into it – and those are a colour and distance sensor and a motor.

Lego Boost All

To control any of that, you’ll need to do some basic programming, using a drag and drop interface on the companion app that you’ll be able to download for iPad and Android tablets. You’ll also need the app to find the building instructions for 5 models, Vernie the Robot, Frankie the Cat, the Guitar 4000, the Multi-Tool Rover 4 and the Autobuilder (which can apparently build other little Lego models).

All of this looks great, and I look forward to introducing it to Noah later this year. Anything that gets kids programming is a great thing. Not because it’s necessarily a direct skill they’re going to use, but simply because working and thinking logically is such an important skill. Anything Lego can do in this area to encourage that kind of thinking is OK by me.

Lego Boost App

There’s lots of reports about Boost around the web because they showed it off at CES today, but the Engadget report is worth your time, as is taking a look at the official Lego microsite for the product.
